This region is characterized by high levels of poverty, limited access to clean water, high unemployment, poor public health, and deteriorating educational facilities.

Local deforestation is the result of excessive charcoal production, firewood consumption, and uncontrolled burning.

Historically, the Mozambican civil war (1977-1992) left the local forests fragmented with a rapidly declining bush elephant population.

It is hoped that a steady income coupled with sustainable land use practices will greatly improve the overall well-being of the community, restore the forest ecosystem, and ultimately contribute to the protection of Mozambique's declining wildlife populations.

1,600,000 trees of native species will be planted over a period of 2 years at the Três de Fevereiro site
Compensation period: 2022-2032
Tree planting period: 2021 - 2023
Total compensation during the project: 40'000 tCO2
Average sequestration per tree (10 years): 50 kg
The site will be photographed every year, once the plantation is completed, by drone and/or on the ground
