Project no. 2: Revitalization of a peat bog in Switzerland

This measure will largely favor the rare and characteristic fauna and flora of peat bogs.

This project, a collaboration between the State of Neuchâtel, the Swiss Confederation, Pro Natura and Medisupport, is dedicated to the revitalization of the Joux-du-Plâne (NE) peat bog.

This hydrological restoration will allow the characteristic mosses of the peat bogs, the sphagnum mosses, to effectively recolonize the environment and thus recreate the carbon sink through the accumulation of organic matter.

Objectives of the measure

Hydrological restoration of the soil (water saturation of the peat mass).
Storage of CO₂.
Conservation of water inside the peat bog in the form of open water bodies.
Valuation of aquatic species characteristic of the peat bog.

Duration of the work: about 2 months
